The Exciting Adventures of Rockford UMC

Weekly Devotional

The psalmist voices great longing when he tells God, “As the deer longs for streams of water, so my soul longs for you.”  Longings are a part of life. Sadly our longings are often driven by peer pressure and our surrounding culture. We want to be something, have something. I think of the movie, Urban Cowboy and the song that came from it called “Looking for Love(in all the wrong places)”. That’s how we often are we search endlessly for contentment and are never satisfied. An early church father St. Augustine addressed the problem this way: “Our hearts are restless until they rest in Thee (God).” There is a place in our spirits that only the Holy One can fill. Many have found this to be true.  Perhaps you have tried it all and are still discontented and disconnected. I invite you to give that “hole”, that void to God. God delights in God’s creation of which we are the highest part. God longs to fill us with rollicking delight that only God can provide.  Rollick with God and see the change.
